Fanz and More Catching Up

Having spent the past several weeks finishing my sketchbook for the Sketchbook Project, I did not find any time to post here, though I did do a lot of drawing. My sketchbook has been mailed to Brooklyn, and I am (hopefully) back on schedule to post regularly.

The Diva's Challenge this week is to use the tangle Fanz.  I made several attempts, but can't seem to get the proportions right, so my tile this week includes Fanz, but only a small amount in the center. In addition to Fanz, I used Loops and Printemps drawn and shaded entirely with Tim Holtz Distress Markers. Definitely not my favorite tile ever, but here it is.

The moderators of the Facebook group Square One: Purely Zentangle have recently created additional groups allowing other less pure forms of Zentangle. These groups include Square One: Purely Fun Zentangle, Square One: Round One Zentangle, Square One: La Petite One Zentangle, Square One: Purely Black Zentangle, Square One: Swap One ATC Zentangle, Square One: Purely Renaissance Zentangle and Square One: Opus One Zentangle. These groups are for ZIAs, Zendalas, Bijou tiles, White on Black tiles, ATCs Renaissance (tan tile using only black, white and or brown ink) tiles and Opus tiles respectively. The Square One focus this week is Nipa.  For the focus this week, I created an ATC in the Renaissance style using Nipa and Tipple.

I also played a bit with color this week. Using my Tim Holtz Distress Markers, I colored some squiggles and large blobs on a piece of watercolor paper, I then used an eyedropper to place random droplets of water over the ink. When dry, I tangled over the results.  I think it turned out pretty neat, and plan to experiment with this more in the future. The tangles I used are Wirlybird, Joy, Arcflower, Betweed, Jelly Roll, Popsicles, Pepper, Msst and Mooka.

As I mentioned earlier, I am still playing catch up.  I combined the Diva Challenges from the past two weeks (Spiral the first week, and Flux last week) into one ZIA. In addition to Flux, I used Strircles and Knights Bridge.

My final picture for the week is one my favorite drawing from the sketchbook I sent in to The Sketchbook Project.

As always, comments and critiques are welcome.

Happy Tangling!

  1. The Sketchbook Project! I got mine off on the 31st, with three pages blank. On the very last page I wrote "that's all she drew" hahaha because I just couldn't whip up anything more.
Your Nipa is AMAZING. I have tomorrow off so I'm going to see if i can do that. :) just letting you know, I'm gonna copy.
Great cat pic. Post the link to your sketchbook so people can check out your work!

  3. I came here from the Diva's weekly challenge post, but my favorite piece you've shared here is the one with the colorful tangled flowers. Maybe I'm just tired of the gloomy days we've been having here in Phildadelphia, but that particular piece made me smile. :)

    1. Thank you! The flowes were really fun to do. I enjoy playing with paints, and thought that my random blobs of color would translate well into flowers.
